Founder, Director
Tom McDonald
Tom McDonald has 15 years experience in the Australian real estate industry across investment banking, investment management and transactions.

Prior to founding Elka Capital, Tom was a Principal in the Blackstone Real Estate team in Australia. He was responsible for managing multi-billion dollar portfolios across various real estate asset classes, including one of Australia's largest Build-To-Rent portfolios.
​
Prior to Blackstone, Tom worked in the Real Estate Mergers and Acquisitions team at Goldman Sachs and in the Transactions team at Stockland. During this period, Tom was involved with many transactions, particularly across the real estate living sector. Tom started out his career as an equity analyst at Credit Suisse.

Tom's qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney and a Masters of Finance from the University of NSW. Tom has also held numerous industry committee roles, including being a member of the Property Council of Australia BTR committee.
Founder, Director
David Laing
David has 20 years of experience in the real estate industry across both Australia and the UK. He has held senior management roles with some of Australia's largest developers and contractors including Stockland, Lend Lease, and Multiplex

David's experience extends across acquisitions, development management, construction and operations. He has had a strong focus on delivering owner-operator assets in the seniors living sectors, providing him with a deep understanding of the complexities involved with these projects.

Prior to founding Elka Capital, David served as the General Manager for Ryman Healthcare's Australian development business, where he successfully grew the portfolio to over $3 billion in value. Before that, he held various key positions including the National Manager of acquisitions for Stockland's retirement living business and the Regional Manager of Lend Lease's retirement living development business.

David holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management) from RMIT University and has actively participated in numerous industry committee roles.
